Havanese Questions

Havanese Questions

  1. What type of food do you feed your dogs?
We feed our dogs Purina Pro Plan puppy food.
  2. What type of chew things do you recommend?
Pigs ears & Cow hooves, this helps with the teething, urges to chew things and allieviate stress. NO Rawhide, its bad for digestive system and can cut the insides of their mouths.
  3. What type treats do they like?
Some of the havanese are picky when it comes to treats, we have found that ours prefer meat type treats, like beggin strips. I also fix them liver and sometimes they get hot dogs and cheese is ok too, moderation with any treats however.
  4. What type of grooming supplies will I need?
Brush, comb, toothbrush, nail clippers, shampoo & conditioner(we recommend Espree products for both). Also there is a conditionar detangler that works well with adult coats called "The Stuff", all found at Pet Edge online. I personally don't do the nails, ears or teeth. My dogs go to the spa for those things. I keep up with bathing & brushing. If you are not going to the spa, the teeth, ears & nails will need to be taken care of.
  5. Do you feel there is a difference in the sexes as far as more affectionate, loving & playful in the havanese breed?
I feel you can find all these qualities with either sex. Havanese are very social, sweet & loving gentle breed. I have these qualities in both male and females. I feel its more of a preference. You might find out more by asking the breeder about the puppies personalities as some may show to be more playful and some may show to be more loving. Thats the way I would choose if I was looking for particular personality trait.
  6. What is the difference between full and limited registration?
Limited registration mean you are buying the dog for pet only. You will not be able to "show" your dog or breed your dog. Full registration includes all the above.
  7. How big will my Havanese get?
Our Havanese adults weight between 7 to 15 lbs. Our puppies should all be within the AKC standards though weight isn't a determning factor. Standards are based on size, ranging from 8 1/2 - 11 1/2 inches tall at the shoulders.
  8. Do you have a waiting list?
Yes, we do. Unfortunately being on the waiting list does not guarantee you a puppy or priority of choosing a puppy. Once the litter is born, everyone on the waiting list will be notified, regardless of how long you are on the list, and in no particular order.
  9. What payment methods and deposits do you accept?
Deposits can be sent at any time to reserve a current or future puppy. Please see our page "Deposits and Payment Information" on our website. This will also give you information on the way you can receive your puppy.
  10. When will my puppy be available to come home with me?
The puppies will be ready to go between 8 to 12 weeks depending on our vet recommendation.
  11. Do you have any rescue dogs or older dogs available?
  12. We do not at this time but may in the future.
